PTA is your entry to the world class tourist destination and capital of the Netherlands: Amsterdam. The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is a stroll away from the historic Amsterdam City Center. Ideal for the independent traveler who can start exploring the city by foot. As well as strategically positioned to start an excursion to visit the famous Dutch highlights.
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam has welcomed over 3.8 million passengers since the opening in the year 2000. Passengers come from all over the world to visit the Dutch capital. The most common nationalities on board are English, German, American and Dutch. Many ships have visited PTA since then for transit calls and turn arounds (where Passenger Terminal is the start or end point for the cruise passenger). With a transit call, the same passengers will board again after their visit.

Since 1875, the area has been dominated by the maritime industry. The IJ-oever was built at the time to accommodate the ever-increasing ocean steamers. In 1970, one of the sheds was converted into a passenger terminal. The ships became larger and the cruise industry started to grow bigger and bigger. Because of the growth, there was a new terminal built in 1997: The Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, designed by architect Larry Malcic. The shape of the roof symbolizes the connection between water and land. The combination with the glass creates a phenomenal view.
